Course Description
Students will be expected to demonstrate skill at reading and performing 1) music, 2) scales or rudiments, and 3) rhythm patterns. You will develop good tone and technique on your instrument. You will also learn to blend with, and enhance, the overall band sound. You will develop a sound knowledge of musical notation and historical significance. You are expected to take proper care of your instrument and any music issued to you.
Course Requirements
Students will be expected to be present at daily rehearsals and public performances and be prepared to play. Attendance at public performances is mandatory and will receive a grade. Missed performances cannot be made up and grading will reflect any unexcused absences. If a student is unable to attend a performance they must notify the director prior to the event. In case of an emergency the student will need to present the director a note from either parent or guardian upon return to school.
Requirements
Students will provide their own instruments, except for percussionists, who must provide their own sticks and mallets and have a drum or practice pad at home on which to practice. "Exotic" instruments (tuba, baritone, french horn, bass clarinet, baritone sax, oboe, basoon) may be obtained from the music department. Students must provide their own reeds, valve oil, pencil, lyre and flip folder.
Instruments must be maintained in good working order at all times!!!
